The BB54 provides a phenomenal canvas for constructing customized watch builds that pay tribute to the the legendary 1950’s vintage aesthetic. Be it a big crown with Mercedes hands or the minimalism of Pencil hands and a small crown, my aim in each creation is to provide enthusiasts with the look and feel of 50’s era subs without the radium and 6 figure price tag.

1. Mercedes Hands: This involves sourcing, genuine vintage hands and a custom white lollipop sweep seconds hand, adjusting them to fit the modern Tudor Calibre, 24k gold plating, and finally re-luming them using Swiss C3 X2 grade Superluminova and vintage pigments.  Offered at $3,500.

2. Big Crown Installation: This is the only NON-reversable option. It involves drilling and tapping the midcase by hand to accommodate a vintage OEM crown and Tube set. The watch will retain water resistance up to 5 bar. I strongly encourage people that want this option to consider the fact that this is not reversible. AND Tudor will no longer service your watch once altered in this way. This option is for the enthusiast that prioritizes customization over all else $850.

 

3. Pencil Hands: This is a custom handset that is then lightly broached, brushed, gold plated and relumed  entirely by hand in-house using Swiss C3, X2 grade Superluminova and vintage pigments to color match the dial in both day and night conditions. Offered at $2,500

4. Acrylic crystal: After testing a few dozen acrylic crystal options and dialing in measurements of the case rehaut, I discovered the perfect aftermarket acrylic crystal combination. In fact, it has a very similar radius to the original T16 superdome fitted to small crowns of the 50's. Installation involves sealing and pressure testing to 5bar. Please note that this modification retains some water resistance but not to the same extent as the OEM sapphire crystal. Offered at $400.

5. Modified aftermarket red triangle insert: The company Steel reef makes some excellent aftermarket parts. I take the red triangle that they make, fade it a touch, patina the finish, remove the pip and add pigment matching the dial and handset. Offered at $850.

6. Dial relume: Using vintage non-radioactive pigments mixed with super bright Swiss Tritec C3 Grade X2  Superluminova, I color match to a photo of my favorite 6536 photo leaving the 6 o'clock plot purposefully lighter as was done in the 1950's. This modification is only available with the Mercedes handset option.  Offered at $2000.
